ABOUT US

Motivational Speaker, Trainer, Success & Life Coach, Mentor

With a life and career crafted by hardships, Dr. Sheldon L. Smart offers his expertise and experience to others who are seeking a more fulfilling path for their lives.

Dr. Smart was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. His family life was one of poverty, with no running water or indoor plumbing. His character was further shaped by a daily six-mile walk to school. With only $200.57 in his pocket, Dr. Smart embarked on a journey to make a better life for himself; a life that would eventually also provide a positive impact for many others.

On his way to earning multiple university degrees, including a Master’s in Communication and a Doctorate in Education, Dr. Smart worked manual labor jobs as a way of paying for his schooling and achieving his dreams.

With multiple academic peer reviewed publications and his first book soon to be released, Dr. Smart maintains a passion for research and writing. Along with being a motivational speaker, mentor and life coach, he serves as an Educational Technician at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Here he conducts weekly job and life skills workshops. These workshops include topics such as organizational culture and diversity in the workplace, dealing with guilt, anger issues, the importance self-worth and creating personal goals. Over the past six years Dr. Smart has coached more than 1000 individuals in various areas of soft skills and life skills. His goal has been to help these individuals transition successfully into the workforce and prepare for their return to life outside of a rehabilitation facility.

Dr. Smart currently serves as Department Chair of Communication and Fine Arts at Tarrant County College, the fifth largest community college system in the United States. He is also a faculty member, lecturing in the subject areas of communication, business communication, public speaking and transition to college courses.

Additionally, he serves as a mentor in the college’s mentoring program, initiated primarily to serve minority males, but includes all males seeking mentorship. To further strengthen the program, he has recently been tapped to teach a pilot study course, bridging mentorship and academics. This program is intended to increase retention rates for student’s participating in the mentoring program.

Dr. Smart recently launched a YouTube channel, using the platform to host interviews and discuss important topics that can contribute to individual personal growth.

Finally, Dr. Smart is an independent contractor working for Oxford University Press as a textbook reviewer of academic publications in the field of Communication.
